Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Black Canyon National Park (BCNP) previously known as the National Monument is a spectacular area. This park is a 2,000 foot deep narrow canyon that provides awe-inspiring views, and wonderful activities. Like the Grand Canyon, the BCNP formed slowly over millions of years by water. The plummet is so large one can view rocks over 1.7 billion years old. The almost vertical drop will definitely take your breath away! Rock climbing should be left to highly experienced climbers only.

One may enter the park by the South Rim or the North Rim Road. South Rim is opened from April - November but people may enjoy cross country skiing, snowshoeing and other local activities in the winter. The park also has visitor centers which are highly recommended. Make sure to pick up pamphlets on popular trails.

Cost to enter the park is $15 per vehicle and is good for 7-days.
